Hello, I'm Tom McCoy.
Spirituality has always been an important part of who I am. I was brought up practicing the Catholic faith and this led me to becoming a priest and received my M.Div., degree. After several years I came to see that I was called to something else. I left the priesthood, got married and raised a family. I attended Yeshiva University and became clinical social worker. In my work as a psychotherapist. I have come to see that therapy can be very limited when it comes to questions that people ask about their meaning and purpose in life, their spiritual connection, their connection to something greater than themselves. This led me to studying Spiritual Counseling at One Spirit Interfaith Seminary. I believe that spiritual counseling, spiritual companionship provides those who are searching or trying to better understand themselves and their spirituality in a way that therapy never can. Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina are part of my personal spiritual practice. I believe that Catholicism and Christianity have a deep spiritual tradition that rarely is spoken about. While at One Spirit I enjoyed and was enriched in learning about and practicing many different forms of spirituality and spiritual practice. My own spirituality has led me to become deeply involved in social justice issues. I am also deeply interested in Interfaith spirituality and practices, monasticism, early Christian communities, as well as how one's spirituality may be challenged as we age.
